PETER GREENAWAY TO BE AWARDED RIZZOLI PRIZE AT ISCHIA GLOBAL FEST. JULY 13 FOR 'THE TULSE LUPER SUITCASES: THE MOAB STORY'

E-mail Print PDF

Naples (June 18) - U.K. director Peter Greenaway will be awarded an Angelo Rizzoli e Award July 13 at the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest for his work in getting eight European countries to cooperate in the making of the film Le Tulse Luper Suitcases: The Moab Story.

The Italian producers constituting the jury for the Rizzoli Prizes selected Greenaway for the film that had been introduced at the Naples Film Festival and that has many technical innovations. It will be distributed in Italy in September.

The film also was screened at Cannes, where it was revolutionary in contrast to its competitors, but perhaps it was too brave to gain the Golden Palm or other acknowledgement, said Luciano Sovena, general executive manager of the Istituto Luce, a co-producer of the Ischia festival.

The Rizzoli jury that selected Greenaway for the producer award was composed of Aurelio De Laurentis, Riccardo Tozzi, Domenico Procacci, Giancarlo Leone, Giampaolo Letta and Tilde Corsi, and was presided over by Marina Cicogna, past president of Italia Cinema, and Nicola Carraro, grandson of the famed publisher and producer for whom the prize is named.

Greenaway, noting that films today are seen 75 per cent on television, 20 per cent on DVD and only 5 per cent in the theater, is working on new digital technologies for internet and DVD distribution that he hopes to show at the Venice Film Festival.

One focus of the festival will be the relationship between music and film. Brody, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of The Pianist, said the cinema and music have the same power. The films would not be same without music to transmit the emotions and to make to link various worlds. This enormous power I discovered making The Pianist. I could not have less music.
